THE FLASH: Warner Bros. China Accused Of Paying For Positive Reviews And Reactions
After months of hype that saw The Flash being hailed as one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, the DC Comics adaptation launched this weekend to mostly positive reviews and a B Dismal CinemaScore.
More importantly, The Flash has all the makings of a box office flop, a disaster for Warner Bros. ahead of DC Studios' planned DCU reboot.
Those of you who didn't buy the initial praise for David Zaslav, James Gunn, Tom Cruise, Jaden Smith and Stephen King and others may now have something else to disapprove of. Warner Bros. Chinese Middle Kingdom has accused critics and social media influencers of being paid for positive reviews of The Flash , according to Chinese box office analyst Gavin Feng.
While moviegoers across the country appeared to have justifiably enjoyed the film, this seemingly false praise has sparked a backlash across the internet and is likely to have a negative impact on box office receipts.
Free speech isn't exactly something China is known for, so even at the best of times, critics have a hard time voicing negative criticism. However, what appeared to be false praise for The Flash from the aforementioned influencers and critics left DC fans reeling and discouraged from buying tickets this weekend.
Seasoned moviegoers, after a difficult few years wary of the DCEU, apparently haven't reconciled the fact that The Flash could be as good as some people make it out to be.
While "buying" reviews isn't a realistic possibility in the US, we know that social media reactions are unreliable, as early viewers of movies like this tend to get caught up in the excitement... or get excited. to see their names in a TV commercial!
There's always a chance that some people actually believe that The Flash is one of the best superhero movies of all time, and if so, it might just be the most controversial comic book adaptation of all time.
