South Korean actress Kim Si Eun will reportedly join the cast of the second season of the popular Netflix series Squid Game.
On Monday, a media outlet reported that the Next Sohi actress has been cast in the female lead in Squid Game 2.
After reports surfaced that Kim Si Eun had joined the cast of 'Squid Game 2,' many wondered if the actress could match Jung Ho Eun's international popularity.
Kim Si Eun won the 2023 Baeksang Award for New Lead Actress in a Feature Film for her outstanding performance in the South Korean sequel Sohee.
The award-winning film follows the story of high school student Sohee, played by Kim Si-eun, who died studying business at a local call center.
According to a review in the South China Morning Post, "'Next Sohee' is a condemnation of the exploitation and neglect of South Korean youth by employers, schools, and government agencies."
"Kim [Si Eun] gives a strong performance as a student suffering from her job in a call center," said the film critic.
According to the Korea Herald newspaper, Next Sohee has won awards at prestigious film festivals around the world and was selected as a finalist at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
The dramatic thriller won three awards at the 42nd Amiens International Film Festival in France and the 26th International Fantasy Film Festival in Canada.
At the time of publication, neither Netflix nor the Squid Game production team have made any official announcements or confirmations regarding the casting of actress Kim Si Eun.
On June 18 , Netflix announced the new cast of the second season of "Squid Game" in a promotional video posted on YouTube .
Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon and Yang Dong Geun were announced as new actors. Although their roles have not yet been announced, fans are hoping they will bring new perspectives and interesting characters to the hit series.
Season 1's Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wai Ha Joon and Gong Yoo will continue to star in Squid Game's second season, which will be released in 2024.
