Summary:

After spending 12 years in prison, a father fights for the love of his son and grandson.

Director Catherine Hardwicke spends a lot of time trying to avoid the expected traps in The Prisoner's Daughter , and it's a shame when she unwittingly succumbs to that pressure in a forcedly funny, overcooked ending. The rest is a drawn-out, awkward, poorly written family drama that touches on some difficult parenting moments, such as the mother punishing a bully by beating him up instead of letting him run and rule in a realistic moment. His life but he's really proud even though he knows he doesn't have to fight at school.

That mother is Maxine Kate Beckinsale, the financially dysfunctional and overworked single mother of her first child, Ezra (Christopher Convery). The work part quickly comes to a head when her drug addicted former drummer partner Tyler (played by American bandleader Tyson Ritter) makes a scene at one of her jobs. Also, Max's ex-boxer (Brian Cox), turned criminal, can be released from prison, IV. She has been diagnosed with stage 1 pancreatic cancer and is too young to live if her daughter wants her to live. Reconnect and let her spend the rest of her days there.

At the time of the first phone call, Maxine still wanted nothing more than to be a parent, and she was often left to take care of her suicidal alcoholic mother with this man. However, life does not get easier, and no matter what Tyler says, he is not trying to improve his life and become a model father (now an abandoned building covered in graffiti, surrounded by the same drug addicts). . Max is able to offer help paying some bills, so he decides to say yes to his good behavior by posing as Ezra's unknown uncle.

Nobody knows why Maxine can cheat on Ezra, because she is smart, curious and likes to ask questions. So the convertible passes very quickly, but gives the prisoner's daughter a chance to come into conflict with a man who has changed in 12 years and wants to be in her family's life and does not see her son. super power In one of the film's most powerful scenes, Max (played by Brian Cox with such grace, humility and simplicity) gives Ezra the opportunity to tell his child or adult the truth. Of course, Ezra thinks he's old enough to hear such harsh facts, so Max wastes no time in explaining to Tyler why he's such a bad father and person.

The truth is not only obvious to Ezra, but also shows Maxi what change looks like and that he is not the father he was 12 years ago. He teaches the boy how to box and fight to protect him from bullies, but above all, he has a positive influence on the boy. Unfortunately, director Katherine Hardwicky and screenwriter Mark Bacci seem to have gone to great lengths to establish what a terrible person Max is for fear of giving away details, changing our opinion of him, or muddling up the story. Flexibility is very difficult.

Long, rewarding acting and chemistry between the cast takes The Prisoner's Daughter through plot twists, comfort, and sometimes forced emotional dialogue. A believable family dynamic hides a lame plot until the movie veers into violence, which isn't entirely believable or credible. Even Brian Cox couldn't handle the job, especially the climax.
