Movie Review/Devotion

Since Avatar: The Last Airbender is coming out next weekend, there's no new wide release slated for release this weekend, and it's only a week away from Crush. I've already reviewed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as well as runners-up Cruel Night, Strange World and The Menu, second and fourth respectively. As much as I want to go back and rate the menu more, this week's review will be on #5 Devotion.

The film stars Jonathan Majors and Glenn Powell as the heroic fighter pilots of the 1950s Korean War. Jesse Brown (Majors) is the more talented pilot of the two, but as an African American, he is held back by prejudice. day. He hasn't been completely eliminated and things are starting to change, especially considering his amazing abilities, but there are still many who hate him. Tom Hudner (Powell) is also a talented pilot in Brown's department.

He's not as brilliant as Brown, but he's seen as more personable, media-friendly and cooperative. He wants to do more for her
His counterpart is on top, but Brown and his wife, Daisy (Christina Jackson), insist that Hudner is not fighting for him in Brown's war, but on his side. Hudner spends most of the film wondering how to be with his girlfriend without crossing the line.

I'll tell you right off the bat, earlier this year we did a film about fighter pilots, Top Gun: Maverick, which could end the year at number one at the international box office. The film also stars Glenn Powell, who rose to fame playing Hollywood's leading pilots in this film and John Glenn in Undercover. The marketing of the film tried to present it as a sequel to Top Gun: Maverick and tried to appeal to the audience that made this film successful.

But it actually had the opposite effect, making the film look like a cheap knock-off that shouldn't have been seen by audiences already fed up with Fighter Pilots in 2022. I assure you this is no plagiarism: many talented people have turned their backs on this work and Jesse Brown's story is certainly worth telling, but he's one of the most creative of top performers and it turns into a terrible business.

Perhaps the film's biggest problem is that it focuses too much on this part of Brown's life. Don't get me wrong, this is obviously a big role and I'm not sure the biopic would be complete without her, so it was a good idea to limit the timeline of the film to just one year.

Yes, the movie is about Brown and Hudner's friendship, and I know the two don't meet until the 1950s, but Brown is so successful at the beginning of the movie that there are no obstacles to overcome. I think Brown's biopic was an outlet instead of focusing on his relationship with Hudner, which doesn't seem real.

Bhakti is a decent film with selfless acting. War movie fans will have a good idea of what they're getting here: the bond between the officers, the family dynamic with Brown, some confrontational and heated discussion about race relations, a beach holiday (Brown's face off with Brown is the highlight of the film) and, of course, tension. A flight scene where. It's a good choice if you like these kinds of movies, but if you've been a fighter pilot for a while, it might get boring.

Level: From
"Dedication" is rated PG-13 for profanity, some fighting/violence and smoking. The duration is 139 minutes.
