Summary
Death is coming worse than death: oblivion. Not just for our world, but for everyone, everywhere, for the entire universe! In the face of this final destruction, the mysterious Monitor assembles the greatest team of heroes to date. But what can the combined forces of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern and hundreds of other superheroes from multiple Earths do to save reality from an unstoppable Armageddon?!
DC Animation's Tomorrow Rovers comes to a spectacular conclusion with a three-part adaptation of Merv Wolfman and the great George Perez's classic and epic adventure. Justice League: On Earth Without Controversy - Part 1 is a heart-warming thriller that follows several characters, especially The Flash, as they must come together to stop a threat that could destroy the universe. Theirs, but the entire multiverse.
While this marks another crisis adaptation after the CW's massive Arrowverse series crossover in recent years (not to mention another Flash-centric story saving diversity after last year's The Flash ), there are many differences between live-action and animated adaptations. . . For fans to enjoy, especially since this is only the first of three animated films featuring the epic adventure. Crisis Part 1 tells the story of a beautiful character in the multiverse as he travels through different times and universes to prevent the apocalypse, explores the Flash's past and meets the rest of the Justice League. Like his wife Iris. Sunset.
The film takes some time to follow the Flash as he goes through different points in his life. Even though it's clear that something big is going on, it's a series of short adventures that don't seem to connect to Justice League yet. In the middle, the purpose of the disaster is explained in more detail, and the multiverse teams up to prevent its destruction.
Despite this, we're exploring those early days as we see how the Justice League was founded in the original Batman: The Long Halloween and how The Flash, Superman, Batman and Green Arrow teamed up. As the Flash jumps back and forth between times, the story's non-linear structure adds to the curiosity of how important certain events and characters are to the story's conflict and potential resolution.
As for the Flash, he is the central character of the first film and drives the film forward. Much of the plot hinges on his actions and emotional tensions, especially in his relationship with Iris, and Matt does a great job countering Bomb's role. The Flash is often considered the heart of the DC Universe, and Bomber embodies that in many ways, including the Flash's humor, intelligence, and compassion. His performance is the highlight of the film and he shares many heartwarming moments between Flash and Iris played by Ashley Lathrop. The pair have great chemistry and it's easy to see how and why Barry and Iris make a great couple, despite the limited amount we've seen of them in the Tomorrowverse.
Other cast members, including "Crisis on Earth - Part One," the biggest addition to a DC animated film to date, include two different versions of Superman and Aquaman, and Darren Criss, who plays Liam McIntyre as Earth. - Johnny Quick from Movie 3 and Nolan North as the robot Amazo (also for his role in Hal Jordan's Green Lantern short Revenge: Take My Power ).
Jensen Ackles returns as Batman, who is largely blocked by his allies. There are moments when Batman opens up to the people in his life, and Eccles makes it clear through his performance that even as Batman continues his boorish behavior, he's been hurt. Chris once again embodies everything that is great about Superman, and he does a great job in his supporting role as the older, wiser Earth-2 Superman. Stana Kathick is not as good in the first half as she will be in the next two episodes but she does a good job again as the Wonder Woman.
The animation is well done and full of detail, whether it's the emotions on the characters' faces or the number of heroes involved in one shot when the multiverse finally comes together. Their movements are fluid and the action is extremely well choreographed and animated, giving each of the heroes time to shine as several members of the Justice League must battle the Amazons and an unexpected villain. Outside the court, the colors are vibrant and varied throughout the cellulum, from the sunset over the metropolis to the satellite screens that overlook the multiplex. The writing is really fun to watch and very different from the previous Tomorrow Rovers movies.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part 1 is a great conclusion to Tomorrowlanders, but it lives up to expectations. Although this isn't a page-for-page adaptation of the comics, the same spirit is here to fit this massive event into the context of the ongoing series and focus on the characters. Fans of The Flash will be delighted to see how important the figure of Bomber and the Scarlet Speedster are to the plot and story of this universe.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part 1 arrives on Blu-ray and 4K on January 23, 2024.
