The ‘Suitable Flesh Reviews Cant Get Enough Of Heather Graham And A ‘Randy Demon In This Horror Throwback Film

Heather Graham stars as an obsessive therapist in the old-school horror version of Appropriate Flesh , and critics are raving about director Joe Lynch's twisted thriller. The film was produced by 80s horror master Stuart Gordon until his death in 2020, and the re-animator director's influence seems to be felt throughout the project.

Filled with Lovecraftian body-changing horror, Graham pulls double duty in The Accidental Body as her heroine, Elizabeth, goes on a wild journey of sexual rediscovery and beheading.

You can see what critics are saying below.

Nick Shager, Everyday Animals .

Graham seemed made for this kind of mayhem, a frightened heroine (when it was Elizabeth) and a charming, resourceful villain (when it was her character) who was a bit above the publicity. Whether he's stalking his prey or exploring his body with his hands, Graham pulls double duty with frenzied hysteria and irreverent flair.

Adam White, Independent .

There's nothing more emotional than Boogie Nights star Heather Graham wailing on dramatic saxophone as the curtain rolls sensually around her. It's one of the many temptations to go into a similar body , a chilling horror that answers questions that only a brave screenwriter would dare to ask. A demon who smokes roulette and cuts off people's heads.

Dennis Harvey, Variety .

Her frequent writing partner, Dennis Pauli, very loosely and gendered his 1933 cult fantasy with some collars (and goatees). In the novel Diçka te dera. But unfortunately director Joe Lynch plays most of this supernatural story like an erotic thriller, the vagueness of the satirical intent making the actors look ridiculous. … This is a film that is best seen after several viewings, which may elicit more laughs than expected.

David Ehrlich, Indiewire .

Pauley's script doesn't really delve into the character's psyche (say the psychological studies), but thanks to the metatextual edge of Graham's cast and the incredible pressing of his multi-layered performance, it really doesn't need to. The film's pornographic undertones are strong enough to make The Corresponding Body feel like a real vein in the rotten girl's soul, even though Elizabeth is the last to acknowledge the past life she's currently living. History - human or otherwise.

Glenn Kenney, RogerEbert.com .

While not particularly deep or scary, A Same Body is better than horror fun in a very specific tradition. A tradition that is exemplified by the presence of Barbara Crampton in the cast and the title page of a medical facility called Miskatonic. Yes, this movie is set in Lovecraft Country. Old school.

Megan Navarro, so disgusting .

Lovecraft fans will find a treasure trove of Easter eggs to mine here. But Lynch seamlessly reflects the same dialogue as Stewart Gordon's Lovecraft adaptation, which is more touching. From the opening frames there is a lot of attention to detail. It's not just the settings or the characters that impress the late Gordon's horror films, but the aesthetics, the tropes and everything in between. For his erotic horror thriller, Lynch brings his '90s penchant for soft lighting and saxophone music, and pays homage to horror tropes like sandwich-eating hospital morgue workers.

Jack Kleinman, on the other hand .

With an ominous nod (which appears to be a direct nod to the re-animators) serving as the opening weapon, the film quickly launches into a full sprint through the second and third acts. The devil dances on bodies at a leisurely pace, giving the various cast members a chance to flex their acting muscles (Graham excels, especially sipping brandy as the devil discovers the pleasures of a woman's body). It all culminates in a violent and bloody showdown at the hospital, where an imprisoned Elizabeth faces her partner (played by Re-Animator star and Flesh producer Barbara Crampton) in a showdown involving the bloodthirsty undead, given to Graham: the opportunity to swing the gun. with wild ones dancing.

Isabella Soares, Pounder .

After all, a good piece of meat doesn't have to be particularly gruesome or scary to hold the audience's attention. Special strengths include the original trilogy and how Lynch was able to update this Lovecraft adaptation. While the film pays homage to Gordon's award-winning filmography, it is far from a copy of the late director's style. The score and editing add to the sensual horror without ever crossing the line in terms of drama. All these elements work together to keep the film balanced and its plot engaging. In short, this is the perfect cinematic treat for those who like a chaotic psychological thriller that keeps you engaged but doesn't leave you wondering when the movie ends.

Suited Meat is now in theaters and on VOD.
