‘The Nun II Review: SelfSerious Sequel Takes The Safe Route

Directed by James Wan, The Conjuring Universe is the equivalent of horror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both MCU and TCU are exciting machines that take very little risk and benefit from SEO-driven fan service. However, both continue to break records and raise money. While these systems are often the formula for uncommissioned filmmaking, sometimes a rogue filmmaker comes along to turn the game on its head and produce something unusual within the context of big-budget franchises. However, I don't think Michael Chavez is one of the directors.

The final two chapters in The Conjuring universe were among the weakest of the long-running series. And their latest work, The Nun II , is The Conjuring Universe at its worst. Dull, boring and worst of all, it lacks personality. While this has less to do with the talent of Chavez and his writers than with the studio machine after the most profitable horror releases of all time, it's still pretty disappointing.

Monk II starts out very promising. In the year From old historic churches to historic old churches, the area and attractions try to be worth the price of admission. The opening scene and his subsequent death gave me hope that this sequel could achieve something this cinematic universe has achieved before: something more intense than its predecessors. Unfortunately this is not the case.

Unlike Annabelle: Creation, this entry fails to capture the horror of its dynamic historical setting full of volatile young girls. Unlike Annabelle Homecoming , it refuses to wallow in its nonsensical source material, which is completely serious from start to finish without much of a wink. This is a sequel to the film about the demonic nun. Why should we take it so seriously?

The story here follows the adventures of Erin's sister, once again played by Taissa Farmiga. After the events of the first film, his sister Irene is sent by the Vatican to a boarding school in France, where her husband from the original film works as a gardener. Of course, the evil nun Valak is back and ready to take in our heroes again. Sister Irene is tasked with defeating Valak, and the demonic nun's secret is an evil circle that leads our team of heroes to the aforementioned girls' boarding school.

The girls' school environment is a promising idea and an exciting environment for fear and social dynamics. Nun II is at its best when the girls are scared of each other and experiencing true teenage horror. It's fun to see these supporting characters suffer for each other and ultimately fight for their lives against unknown evils. But they don't get much screen time and are instead reduced to boring and unlikeable main characters.

One notable newcomer to this chapter is Nunn Debra, played by rising star Storm Reid. Reed's latest hit in this genre , a very modern thriller that expresses his talent and personality, has already been a huge success. The year Reid moved to France in the 1950s is a different story. There is nothing historically precise about the performance. In fact, it's sometimes laughable because it's outdated. In the year There's no way this guy wasn't alive during the 2008 financial crisis. Reed was as cool as a fish out of water, but at least he had more grace than Famiga, who frowned like he was waiting for someone to shake his hand. . One word for him. Line.

Even though the performances are lacking and the film lacks characters, there are some good moments that keep the viewer entertained. The Conjuring 2's reinterpretation of the apocalyptic imagery is quite effective, if not reductive. It was really fun to see some of the kills with the audience.

All in all , Nun II is the best example of what goes wrong in the Conjuring universe . These films are at their best when they're allowed to have a little fun, even if the tone is serious, as seen in Annabelle: Genesis . When the budget goes too far, character and danger are sucked out of the room with the help of a Warner Bros. industrial vacuum cleaner, leaving behind a safe, clean, down-at-heel horror film. These films have the potential to be fun, great versions of popcorn. Why burden them with seriousness and ignorance? Indulging in fear on a grand scale is a huge waste of opportunity.

Summary

“Monk 2” is dull, boring, and worst of all, it lacks personality. Above all, it brings profitability and security.
