Blue Beetle Trailer's Social Media Reaction May Change DC Movies
Blue Beetle is one of the last DC movies to leave the previous universe in 2025 when James Gunn launched the new DC Universe. The DC Extended Universe has had a lot of hits and misses before, and the latest entry barely moves the needle in terms of interest. Fortunately, the new movie may change that and get a pre-roll.
The first trailer for Blue Beetle has gone viral on social media, which is surprising for a relatively obscure character. What a huge improvement over Black Man and Shazam! God's wrath has been dealt with and can be a successful double-edged sword. Not only can the film be successful in its own right, but it can also live up to the song's desire to bring attention to lesser-known heroes.

Blue Beetle does well on social media
Despite being sandwiched between the Secret Invasion online release and the Spider-Man: Spider-Verse trailer, the Blue Beetle trailer did very well in terms of views and likes on YouTube. It quickly reached 10 million views and has the highest approval rating of any trailer for The Flash . This success is similarly seen on TikTok, where videos of the film are going viral. Looking at the buzz and excitement seen on these platforms, it seems that the film is already attracting a crowd of youngsters who are waiting for it.
This kind of engagement with TikTok surpasses the treatment of trailers for Shazam! The next megastar is Dwayne Johnson's film " The Black Man's Wrath of the Gods." The latter flopped at the box office due to negative reception, while Shazam! 2 never made much of a splash due to poor marketing. Such luck was especially surprising, considering that his humor was clearly aimed at a younger audience. Blue Beetle is finding more success, largely thanks to its young rising star, Xola Mariduenya. This could be a good sign for the future of movies and DC in general.

The Blue Beetle Onslaught Could Shape James Gunn's DCU
The fact that so many people -- like young moviegoers -- bought into Blue Beetle , especially Warner Bros. Given the current controversy surrounding the Discovery films, this seems like a big deal. Their overall reception and brand equity have been lower than ever due to the previous two flops, and while The Flash was heavily hyped, the initial hype for the second Aquaman movie isn't as great. So, the more popular and successful Blue Beetle is, the better.
Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle isn't DC's most popular hero, but he can take on the big names of Shazam and Black Man. James Gunn's DCU reboot (which was originally supposed to include this version of the Blue Beetle) will also bring more obscure DC properties like Creature Commandos . If Blue Beetle succeeds, it could even open the door for unknown characters to join the DCU. But Z-list characters are more likely to become famous unless someone as marketable as Blue Beetle can crack it. In many ways, even if he's not connected to him, a lot of what Gun wants to do with the DC Universe depends on how Blue Beetle does it. Judging by the social media reaction so far, there's at least a hype machine that's getting bigger than ever. Whether this will lead to better reviews and improved box office remains to be seen.
To see if it lives up to the hype on social media, Blue Beetle hits theaters on August 18, 2023.
