Hindi
Gulmohar is an emotional story that will steal your heart. This movie doesn't dazzle, but it has a strange lesson that can't be ignored. Shot in Meerera Nair's Delhi Beautiful House, the look of this film is mesmerizing. We know that there are many memories associated with ancestral homes, and every corner of the house has its own story. Directed by Rahul Chitella, this film is a story about emotional connection, love for family members and all the elements that keep family bonds alive. This movie teaches us to adapt and embrace change gracefully. A movie that many can relate to, where all the rickety bungalows are converted into multi-storey apartments and the memories will flood your heart when you leave your ancestral home.
While there isn't much to say about the setting, the way it's presented is refreshing. The best performances have to come from Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore. But in Gulmahar , starting from the servants and other family members, everyone did their part. Manoj Bajpayee's work is natural. Gulmohar revolves around the multi-generational Batra family, who is ready to leave the family home of 34-year-old Gulmohar , and how this move defines the sensibilities of each individual character. Selling the family home reveals many hidden family secrets.
Gulmohar deals with the harsh reality of the city, subtly convincing us that life is not easy, but if you have strong family support, the journey becomes less tiring. Every decision made by the senior member of Kusum's family (Sharmila Tagore) has a reason. Written by wife Kusumi (Sharmila Tagore) and father Arun (Manoj Bajpayee), it reveals many family secrets. Arun (Manoj Bajpayee) reacts with dignity and the silence is nauseating.
Leaving this ancestral home is like tying the bonds that we, as a family, have bound with secrecy and personal security. Kusum's (Sharmila Tagore) snap decision shocks the family, especially her son Arun (Manoj Bajpayee), and there are many layers of characters and backgrounds that emerge.
Rahul Chitella's Gulmohar highlights how relationships within a family may evolve as time changes, but one constant is love and respect for each other, including domestic partners who are important members of the family. Gulmohar is a must for all ages. Explore the simplicity and complexity of each modern family and how perspectives differ between the three generations of the family. There is a story behind every character and every important role. The best thing about this movie is where there is a hero and a heroine and that is what makes Gulmohar stand out. Most importantly, everyone has a love story to manifest in their life.
The film also stars Amol Palekar, Simran, Suraj Sharma, Kaveri Seth and Utsavi Jha and is exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
