Horror fans love watching the new Blumhouse horror films, and January 2023 alone will be a big month where Insidious: Fear the Dark and M3GAN are expected to hit the headlines. But while many of the production company's releases did well at the box office and received positive reviews, some films earned less than 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Blumhouse's best and most popular horror films have always been character driven and that is exactly what horror fans are looking for. Films rated low on Rotten Tomatoes tend to have mediocre characters and don't end up as memorable as most of the others.

With a rating of 9% on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience rating of 15%, Martyrs is the Blumhouse horror film with a rating of less than 10% on the website. Kate Burton of Grey's Anatomy fame and Troian Bellisario, best known for his role as Spencer Hastings in the teen horror TV show Pretty Little Liars , will play Eleanor and Lucy Jurin in the film. Bellisario's character lives in St. Mary's Orphanage, and she and her girlfriend Anna (Bailey Noble) seek revenge on the people who kidnapped and hurt them when they were kids.

The storyline and main characters didn't leave much of an impression. With a convoluted plot that doesn't make sense, it's no wonder that this film's rating is below 10%. According to Box Office Mojo, Martrys has only grossed $397,072 worldwide and hasn't been talked about much since its release. Some slasher films deconstruct the genre and feel fresh, but not this one.

With a rating of 8% and an audience rating of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, Fantasy Island is a Blumhouse horror film that lacks a strong plot or well-developed characters. Based on a 1970s TV show, this film is about a group of strangers who are asked to travel to an island to fulfill their wildest dreams.

Instead, the characters understand that "be careful what you wish for" is a very real thing. The biggest problem with this film is that it gets out of control and the effects look more ridiculous than scary. The result is a story that isn't quite as memorable as the original series. The question of what makes a good horror prequel is also relevant to a film adaptation, because sometimes a story just doesn't need to be told anymore. This beautiful island is not very exciting or fun.

Sometimes teen horror films have characters that seem unoriginal, just like any other high school film. This is indeed true for Ouija , which has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 6% and an audience rating of 24%. Ouija , one of the worst teen horror films, is about teenagers who play with a Ouija board and start killing.

Unlike the best demonic possession horror movies, Ouija doesn't look quite as scary and the characters blend well with each other, making it hard to pay attention. Since many people have fond memories of using a Ouija board at sleepovers or just laughing and having fun with friends, it's hard to believe that a Ouija board can be so scary. The plot seems boring and doesn't bring anything interesting.

With a 3% Rotten Tomatoes rating and an audience rating of 19% , Dark is one of Blumhouse's highest-grossing horror films, with a worldwide gross of $10,753,574. This film tells the story of a family who travel to the Grand Canyon and discover supernatural secrets. While the premise is promising, the results are not impressive. It all started with son Mikey Taylor (David Mazouz) finding a stone with a strange and confusing symbol.

Blumhouse has plenty of great non-supernatural movies, but The Dark doesn't quite fit into the production company's catalog of horror films, whether paranormal or more mundane. There isn't much of a plot, and since the characters have nothing to do with it, it isn't very interesting to watch.

The Gallows Act II is a Blumhouse film with a rare Rotten Tomatoes rating of 0% and a rating of 29%. Although the first film of 2015, The Hangman was not a favorite, it proved that this film was not a hit among fans. This is the kind of horror sequel that takes a back seat.

When Auna Ru's (Emma Horvath) video goes viral, spirits follow her, but while it's supposed to be scary, the result isn't scary at all. Audiences love horror films for their well-drawn, heartwarming characters, terrifying locations, and amazing stories, but none of these elements are present. The overall result is a forgettable film.
