The Best Korean Action Movies
Obviously, Heist plays Hong Kong legend Simon Yam, who's often referred to as Michael Caine in China, but that's completely unfair to both actors. Like Kane, Yam has taken on many A to C roles and created many rich characters, all with such a cool polished style. But Yam and Ken are special actors with repertoires that claim their own individuality.
Yam is led by a Korean cast who quickly transform his performance bar into a very appealing character. It's a tale of doubles and stories, and in the end, despite some heinous betrayals, there's still honor among thieves. Epic trigger fights, exciting stunts and gunfights take place in a complex tangle of storylines. Oceans Eleven There is nothing in this movie.
Admiral: Waves (2014)Currently, Admiral: Rumbling Currents is the top-grossing and highest-grossing film in South Korea. It is based on the historical naval battle of Myeongyang (1597 AD) when a dozen Korean ships fought about 300 Japanese attack ships. It is glorious and extremely violent, drenched in seawater and blood.
A shipwrecked admiral named Yi Sung-sin (Choi Min-sik) has to assemble several shipwrecks to fight against samurai, ninja and pirate ships. He is aided by a suspicious captain, frightened sailors, vulnerable villagers and a few Buddhist monks. After about an hour of setup, the rest of the film is a barrage of massive naval battles. It's excitingly violent, with lots of headbutting, cannon fire, archery, shipwrecks, explosions, sword fights, and very satisfying ship deck battles.
Last July “Hanson. A prequel to Dragon Rises, which has already become the second-highest-grossing Korean film of 2022." Nareyang. The three feathers are dubbed the "Sea of Death."
Pirates (2014)This delightful Korean film is a great thriller and a great example of a funny K-movie. Pirates of the Caribbean meets Moby Dick and Cat Rider. The whale swallows the royal seal given to Korea by the Chinese Emperor and the film tries to get it back. Some mountain bandits take on the role of pirates only to find they are not seaworthy at all. Great CGI, full of cartoon characters (the wonderful and always hilarious Yoo Hye Jin as Chulbon), a great pirate captain with a sword (Song Ye Jin as Yowol), lots of blindfolds and scars, naval battles and lots of fun sword fights! That's two hours of non-stop entertainment: action, adventure, comedy and romance. It's a little gory, but mostly family-friendly, and like a good K-movie, it has some surprising twists that drive the plot along.
