How about The Tiger's Apprentice?

Based on the book by Lawrence Yip , tiger intern Tom Lee ( Brandon Soo Hoo ) lives with his grandmother ( Kheng Hua Tang ), a Chinese-American high school student, who struggles to fit in and tries to impress a new girl. . . Written by Rav ( Leah Lewis ). But half-hearted bullies become the least of her problems when she returns home from school to find Hugh (Henry Golding ) waiting outside her house. Hu says he is an old friend of Ms. Li, but the two are more than friends, they are colleagues. Who tells Tom that his grandmother is responsible for protecting humanity from evil forces .

When disaster strikes, Tom Lou (Michelle Yeoh) is forced to take his grandfather's place as guardian to protect him from the evil Phoenix Egg, who wants to use him for his own purposes, endangering all of humanity . Well, one of the twelve members of the Zodiac takes Tom under his wing - or maybe his leg? He is a tiger after all and he introduces other animals including Mistral the dragon ( Sandra Oh ) and Sydney the mouse ( Bowen Young ). Together they embark on a mission to stop Luna and his dark forces before it's too late.

Tiger's Apprentice is a big and fun adventure.

Hui previously said she had a personal connection to bring Yep's story to life: "Having lived in San Francisco as a Chinese-American, I had the idea to meet the parents of a Chinese boy in San Francisco's Chinatown, the famous Zodiac Warrior. And that connection resonates everywhere. As anyone whose culture is not the "default" one will tell you, the interpretation and distortion of one's existence by a dominant ( read: white) lens dangerous and can feel alienating in your own culture and experience. Fortunately, "The Tiger's Disciple" does not rise to this particular challenge and hopes that audiences will follow suit. Anyone familiar with Ms. . Lee's spiritual practices on screen will understand, but not the film. San Francisco's Chinese community as a monolith; Ms. Lee is understood by everyone, but many (especially teenagers) find it strange.

Without much explanation , the Tiger Apprentice is simply allowed to exist as an adventurer and a legend. The animation is bright and vibrant, the world leans towards cleaner shades of gray, and it's a beautiful look. The colors also create a clear distinction between the real world and the magical world, which gradually blurs as they intertwine. In addition to the visual elements, there is an original story, an adventure story that can entertain the whole family. Yes, the middle tension - the phoenix egg protection - can feel a bit flat at times given the mounting knobs. But the supporting cast has enough humor and heart to make up for it.

Star-studded cast elevates 'Tiger's Apprentice'

Above all, the film's greatest strength is the East Asian talent it brings to its roles, not just working in Hollywood. Goulding is particularly unique, and if she's as funny as she says she is, she should consider doing more comedies . Although he spends most of the story in the background, there is a very interesting dynamic between Hu and Mistral.

Overall, the collection is fun and diverse enough for Tiger's Apprentice viewers to find and relate to, with plenty of potential for other stories set in the same world, adventures based on other zodiac animals, or Tom and the Whore. . As much as I hate to suggest a cinematic universe treatment, the premise they set up here has so much potential - not to mention the surprise reveal at the end - that it suggests the filmmakers at least a follow up. Together or not, The Tiger's Apprentice is a self-contained and poignant story that touches the heart and entertains the audience.
