Siren Movie Review: Jayam Ravi's Revenge Drama That Will Delight You

Director Anthony Bhagyaraj has introduced a commercial entertainer who can offer the audience everything from drama to romance to revenge.

But if we have to classify Sirena by genre, we have to say that it starts as a sentimental drama, turns into a murder mystery and finally becomes a revenge thriller.

While the plot of Siren is not something entirely new, it is Anthony Bhagyaraj's handling of the plot and the interesting way of telling it that makes it interesting.

The story begins with Thilagan (Jayam Ravi), an ambulance driver, sentenced to years in prison for a crime he didn't commit and released on parole for a week or two.

While Thilaghan's family is happy to have him back, his school-going daughter is not. He does not want to meet his father because he feels ashamed among his peers after committing crimes and going to prison.

Tilagan's family believes he came to meet them as a parolee in general and their ex-daughter in particular. However, few people know that Tilagan was released on bail for an entirely different reason: revenge.

Tilagan wants to take revenge on whom? Why do you want revenge? How can Thilaghan, who has been assigned as a ghost cop while on parole, take revenge on the cop next to him? Sirena gives you answers to these and many other questions.

The first part starts slowly, but after ten minutes the film starts to pick up speed. The murders follow each other and their fascinating development keeps you enthralled by the plot. Henceforth, it will be interesting to watch Thilagan's every calculated move, even as the police continue to battle the situation. In part two, learn why Thilakan does what he does. And director Anthony Bhagyaraj, who knows that the audience can start losing interest in a film as the details unfold, cleverly introduces a twist just before the climax to keep the audience interested till the end.

Jayam Ravi gives an excellent performance as the kind and polite parolee. He showed his acting skills throughout the film. While in one case he appears as a benevolent father and an educated criminal, in another he becomes a determined and cold-blooded killer, determined to hurt his opponents before they die.

Keerthy Suresh plays Nandini, a police officer who has strong suspicions about Jayam Ravi's murder, but is always drawn back to find enough evidence of the crime. Although Keerthy Suresh does not have the physique of a cop, he manages to convey the message that he can play the role believably through his attitude, body language and dialogues.

Anupama Parameswaran, who plays Ravi, Jayam's wife, also gives an excellent and commendable performance.

Samuthirakani, who plays a senior police officer in Nagalingam, and Chandini, who plays Ravi, Jayam's sister, also give believable performances that add strength to the narrative.

While the other supporting actors add value, it is Yogi Babu, playing the ghostly officer Velankani, who saves the day.

Kudos to director Anthony for creating this character that looks very carefully crafted. Yogi Babu's character not only drives the action but also plays an important role in the film.

On the downside, Sam CS's background music can be loud and boisterous at times. GV Prakash's songs are melodious and cinematographer Selva Kumar's visuals are stunning.

Overall, Siren is a complete family entertainer that will keep you entertained.
