Johnny Oleksinski of the New York Post noted the poor titles of previous Marvel films; “If you think about the Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Quantumania is the low point of the twisted Marvel Cinematic Universe, get ready for the ride. “...for the terrible misfortune that is a “miracle.”

Lindsey Bahr of the Associated Press noted that the film is part of the recent "sweet spot" phenomenon among Marvel films.

"As is often the case with Marvel's attempts at girl power, it feels a little corny in all the wrong places and doesn't really reflect a specific or unique female point of view," she wrote.

Aside from the widespread popularity of Marvel's Avengers films, RogerEbert.com's Christy Lemire noted that the film is "the clearest evidence yet that we may not need a theatrical or broadcast product anytime soon."

"'Higher, faster, faster' was Captain Marvel's original line," recalls Robbie Collin of the Daily Telegraph. “Have we reached the end?” it would be appropriate.

Peter Travers of ABC News stated that the film is a sign that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is no longer trying to "chase glory" in the past.

Peter Howell of the Toronto Star praised the film's inclusion of a Muslim superhero, but cautioned that it did not save the film as a whole.

"What 'Marvels' offers beyond its 105-minute running time is the energetic presence of Canadian Iman Velani as Kamala Khan, Marvel's first Muslim superhero," he wrote. "Almost enough to save a film that was ultimately impossible to save."

Jake Wilson of The Age stated that the film is proof that Marvel has "finally gotten the girl-power memo" at the expense of male "fans".

Most Marvel movies seem to be made for fans to sing and bless DaCosta. "Carol's Spaceship looks like a cozy college living room with pillows and popcorn in hand," she wrote. He later added: "Subtextually, this may be Marvel's weirdest production yet."

Larson himself has previously made headlines both for his support of liberal policies and for his colleague Samuel L. Jackson, who told Rolling Stone that he needed reassurance after being "broken" by Trump's presidency.
