In the trailer for the movie Garfield, cute, fat cat Pratt talks about how he adopted Jon. Before diving into a plate of lasagna, she warns viewers: “I apologize in advance. The food you see won't be pretty. “If you have small children, now is the time to get them out of the room.”

Pratt's Garfield is the latest film in the series to hit the big screen. Bill Murray previously played the title character in 2004's Garfield: The Movie and its 2006 sequel Garfield: A Tale of Two Kittens. The live-action/CG hybrids were commercial successes despite a largely negative critical response. The franchise has also inspired direct-to-video films such as Garfield Gets Real and Garfield's Fun Fest, as well as the animated series Garfield and Friends and The Garfield Show.

Mark Dindal, director of Chicken Little and The Emperor's New Ditch, directs Garfield from a script by Finding Nemo's David Reynolds. The film is being produced by Columbia Pictures with financial support from Alcon Entertainment, which owns the rights to the comic book series and the Garfield brand. Sony Pictures will distribute "Garfield" worldwide, excluding China. Davis serves as executive producer along with Bridget McMeel and Craig Sost. The film is produced by John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, Andrew Kossow, Broderick Johnson, Namit Malhotra and Tom Jacob.
