The Meg 2 Reviews Are In, And The Shark Movie Doesnt Have Much Bite

At The Digital Fix, we love our shark and horror movies, so The Meg 2! The Trench has caused quite a stir. Look at the sign that says “New Meg. Old Chum," which the trailer likens to "The Meg," is simply incredible; you can imagine the excitement of a great, silly summer movie. But the review embargo is broken, and our hearts go out with it, because Meg 2 looks bad, not for better , but for worse, for crying out loud.

As IndieWire's Keith Erbaland said in his review: "This is the least we want. Jason Statham fights giant prehistoric sharks', but sadly found that 'even this is too boring to re-read'. "If you want to know what it would be like to have a movie written entirely by artificial intelligence, look no further than Meg 2."

David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter said that Megalodon 2 failed to deliver on the fun of the trailer and that "despite the intended, light-hearted summer fun, the previous film fell flat".

Describing it as "Meg 2: The Trench, Ben Wheatley's shipwreck", Tomrys Laughlin of The Wrap described it as "a terrifying sequence actually shot from 25,000 feet to plunge you into bitter agony". Current reviews Tomato has only 18% positive reviews out of 38.

We can forgive a lot, and to be honest with a movie like this, the sillier the better. But is it boring ? We look forward to seeing more from Ben Wheatley, the filmmaker behind some of Britain's most popular independent thrillers including Kill List, On Earth, High Rise and more. Whitley's frequent writing partner Amy shares the script (sorry) because the kind of humor we had in Sightseers and Free Fire seems sorely needed here.

If you're looking for an alternative to Megalodon 2, check out the other new movies this summer. Watch the best action movies for more fun.
