MOVIE REVIEW: We See If Horror And Comedy Mix Well With 'The Blackening'

Mixing horror and comedy is a common recipe that usually results in delicious food.

But some films go too far in one direction, become scary or, conversely, too funny.

Of course, Eclipse works best as a comedy, because even though there's a lot of wholesome gore here, you won't hide behind your arms in fear.

The plot is about seven black friends who go away for the weekend and find themselves locked in a cabin with a dishonest killer.

Tim Story ( Fantastic Four , Ride 1 & 2 ) is written by Tracey Oliver and Dewayne Perkins (who also plays Dewayne ) and is based on the 2018 short film of the same name by comedy group 3Peat, which also includes Perkins.

If you think Barbie is too satirical, "Blackening" shows her as a living force that sheds light on almost all the horrors associated with black people - and life - and often, with glee and irony for her, "jogging makes her money" . .

The task force vows that they will not participate in the many evil games meant for them, but will always test their knowledge with a crime-racist board game.

Horror fans may name a cavalcade of genre favorites - the cabin in the woods, the masked killer, the finger pointer - but more importantly, the script also struggles to acknowledge its place in the cinematic landscape.

The Blackening is a lot of fun at times as the ensemble banter wisely and reveal their different personalities while biting their accusers.

Perkins and Grace Byers ( Allison ) have particularly good comic value, and Clifton , played by Jermaine Fowler, is a fuzzy, self-aware, apathetic underdog who works his way through the group.

But it's hard to get lost in the fate of the characters when you laugh almost every minute, and the final revelation was so obvious that I was sure that the creative team would go in a different direction.

The Blackout is creepier than the slasher, but with its self-awareness and lovable, quote-worthy cast, it's a witty way to kill an hour and a half.
