‘iTunes Movie Trailers App Going Away After Over A Decade

You may not have used it for years, but one of Apple's oldest iPhone and iPad apps is about to disappear. Apple brings iTunes Movie Trailers, first released in 2011, to the built-in TV app, which officially marks the end of an era.

This story is based on Mosyle , Apple's only unified platform. Mosyle is the only solution that fully integrates five different apps on a single Apple platform, enabling businesses and schools to easily and automatically deploy, manage and secure all Apple devices. More than 38,000 organizations use Mosyle solutions every day to automate the deployment, management and security of millions of Apple devices. 512px Stephen Hackett first noticed that Apple has added a new banner to the iTunes Movie Trailers site that says, "The Apple TV app is the new home for iTunes Movie Trailers." Reddit users have noticed that the same banner has started appearing on the iPhone and iPad versions of the iTunes Movies Trailers apps.

With this change, Apple has begun rolling out a new Movies & TV section starting with Apple TV. A screenshot posted on Reddit shows the updated design, which has a tiled interface for the latest trailers available to watch. The new section is located in the TV app storefront, which means it's hidden enough that most users won't normally find it.

The move to iTunes Movie Trailers appears to be in its infancy. For example, on iPhones and iPads, clicking the logo in the original iTunes Movies Trailers app does nothing. We expect this to change over time, and once the transition is complete, Apple will maintain a separate app and web version for trailers.

While Apple has supported the iTunes Movie Trailers app for over a decade, it's been largely ignored. Movie and TV previews can now be easily accessed in other places, such as on individual content pages in the TV app. Still, it's nice to see Apple aiming to provide a dedicated interface for watching trailers, even if it's not separate in their own app.
