‘Kill Boksoon Review: Netflixs Busy Korean Fight Flick Is Both Supercharged And Sensitive

If John Wick were a middle-aged single mother whose teenage daughter was about to become a lesbian, she would be a weak hero like Gil Bokun, Korean director Byung Sung's devastating, throat-cutting but otherwise weak hero. Hun's new action film ran in competition at the Berlinale.

The Netflix original, boldly titled Kill Boxoon , takes inspiration from the Tarantino and Wick franchises, with action-packed scenes where computer-generated itch fills the air like raindrops and a storyline that revolves around corporate killers. A single man or woman, a friend until he gets up.

Kill Boxon

In short, kill the mother.

Venue: Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale Special)
Starring: Jung Do Yoon, Sul Kyung Goo, Kim Si Ah, Isom, Goo Gyo Hwan
Director/Writer: Byung Soon Hyun
2 hours 17 minutes

As Bok-on kills and kills and kills his daughter and talks about the pain of growing up with a girl, the film has an emotional resonance, albeit mundane and superficial. It's too long, over two hours, and pretty much takes where you think, but it's fun to see Byun and Jong present things in a visual and sometimes moving way.

It alternates between slow motion, CGI, lots of camera tricks, amazing fight choreography and staged moments where Box Sung (Jung Do Yoon) tries to bond with teenager Jae Young but mostly fails. (Kim CA) Kill Boxson captures the upbeat, slightly distorted tone that accompanies murder and motherhood.

Through multiple flashbacks, we learn how Boxson became a top contractor for the deadly MK Enterprise. . ) - made their fortunes by turning murder into a highly organized international business.

Such situations are nothing new for John Wick fans, although Byun, who wrote the screenplay, spends time with a small group of long-awaited assassins at a seedy restaurant on the outskirts of Boxon. Seoul would be the film's most memorable action sequence, with gangsters using everything from beer bottles to chopsticks to pots of hot oil to kill each other.

The rest of the story revolves around the predicament of Jae-jung's daughter whose relationship with another student is in jeopardy. Box must deal with the consequences of trying to hide his true occupation, causing tension between the two as they try to get along. never an easy task between a parent and a teenager.

Ben takes his time for the big fight in Act 3, which ends despite some late surprises and lots of martial arts mayhem. There doesn't really seem to be a reason as runtime doesn't matter to Netflix why Killing BokO lasts two and a half hours. But again, John Wick. Season 4 , which airs next month, is 169 minutes long, so it's possible the action scenes in question were at par with the sword-and-sand tale of the past for better or for worse.

Known to fans for classic art house films like The Mysterious Sun and The Maid, John is quite vulnerable as a boy who asks him to kick his ass, as a mother with a child on the verge of puberty. A crisis and a woman in her forties trying to survive (literally) in a corporate environment. Byun subtly builds the film around Jeon, never letting go of her character as she tries to break the heart of either the man or his daughter.
