‘Die Hart: The Movie Review: Kevin Harts Modest Meta Actioncomedy Plays To Its Strengths
Hollywood may be full of blatant genre parodies, but we rarely find films that parodies the genre as a whole. Kevin Hart's action movie adaptation, Die Hart, does it on its own.
Tired of being a comedian and scorned for being the "partner" of Dwayne Johnson, who plays a fictional version of himself, Kevin Hart drops a reality show and decides to become an action hero. The proven path to that goal is to enroll in the Action Hero School founded, directed and directed by Ron Wilcox (John Travolta). When the initial spell wears off, Kevin and Wilcox find the place creepy, their suspicions quickly grow when the King of Jordan (Nathalie Emmanuel) becomes part of the equation. Surrounded by mystery and whether or not Hart has what it takes to become one of the most sought-after action stars in the industry, Die Hart: The Movie answers.
Die Heart: The Movie (English)
Director : Eric Abel
Actors : Kevin Hart, John Travolta, Nathalie Emmanuel, Josh Hartnett
Duration : 84 minutes
Synopsis : A comedian decides to become an action hero and joins the 'Action Star School' to experience life-changing events.
In microscopic terms, Die Heart: The Movie is a typical little attempt at an action comedy. While the film does a decent job of appeasing genre fans, when we read between the lines to see its true intentions, it seems a lot more fun. As a remake of the 2020 series of the same name, the film mainly works thanks to its low stakes and short runtime. Filled with descriptive references and names from some of the industry's best-known names, Die Heart... wastes no opportunity chasing testosterone-fueled typographical clichés.
Despite the superficial premise in which you see the scenes almost a mile away, and the action is inferior even compared to the work of Hart, like Central Intelligence and the films of Jumanji , Die en Hart... works as a comedy . With Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator Eric Appel at the helm and an impressively talented artist like Hart helming the film, the humor continues long after the film ventures into dark territory. A scene where Hart is scared of squirrels and another where he's hanging on for dear life to the top of a building, for those who think he's recreating a scene from Ride Along 2 to pass the time. Funniest movie ever. Travolta plays the super-sick Wilcox and brings uneasiness to Hart and the audience. Hartnett makes a brief but welcome cameo. Natalie, who has debuted in action movies like Game of Thrones and Fast and Furious as a damsel in distress, has finally filled the action.
On the other hand, the narrative blocks its punches in every way other than humor, and what we get is a pretty dry take on a series that basically tells the same story, but with more substance given the format. Die Heart: The Movie Could Have Been Bigger If it had been mounted on the big screen, however, this satire will put a smile on your face with some laugh-out-loud moments.
Die Heart: The Movie will air on Prime Video from February 24, 2023
