Mirror Man Turns Into Dead Female Movie Icon Shock: Vespa GTS 300 Review

I could be wrong, but I think I'm turning into Audrey Hepburn.

First, I have a cat named Cat who is the double of his cat named Cat in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Second, I just spent the day tearing up Rome on a Vespa like he and Gregory Peck did in Roman Holiday.

However, since the idea of becoming a dead female screen icon might surprise my wife, it might as well be Gregory Peck.

Now that we've cleared that up, let's talk about the Vespa.

Vespas are of course the best scooters. They are more expensive than the cheap plastic models from China, but that's for a reason: they're well made of steel, beautifully finished, and have the Vespa name on the front.

Because of this, horseback riding makes you feel like a handsome young Italian who meets his incredibly stylish girlfriend in an open helmet, leather jacket, and jeans, stopping for a cappuccino at 10:55. because in Italy anyone who asks for it after 11am will be immediately killed with a wet salad for being a pagan.

Where was I anyway? Oh yes, the new Vespa GTS. The GTS was introduced in 2003 as a larger version of the classic Vespa, initially with a 125cc engine, with 250cc and 300cc engines later added.

At 24 horsepower, this latest incarnation is the most powerful yet, with new suspension for better stability at speed and on uneven surfaces, better Brembo brakes, a new frame and wider handlebars for a lighter ride, switches more ergonomic, keyless start and a more comfortable seat and a new LCD backlight.

The four models are Classic, Super and SuperSport, which are basically the same, with different details and colors, and the SuperTech has a 4.3-inch TFT screen with connectivity for calls and texts for your Italian instead of the standard analog dashboard. Girl You. You're on your way to that cappuccino.

Notably, there's a glove box and enough space under the seat for two jet helmets, while extras include front and rear panniers, a visor, and heated grips.

There's also a 125cc range with the same four models, and while they're only 14hp, they're not quite as outrageous as the 300, but they're perfect for incredibly stylish youngsters who've just passed their CBT.

Hop on the 300 and you'll find that the new seat is very slim, with a neutral riding position and plenty of legroom for even the tallest scooter riders.

The mirrors are good, the new switches are works of art, and the classic analog dash sits better on the bike than the TFT.

Throw and the air fills with enthusiastic putters, like the heartbeat of that friend I mentioned earlier after she called to say you were having a great time.

Acceleration, with more horsepower than ever, was honest enough to keep Rome's traffic lights turned off and even when leading in more traffic, the bike's lightness, graceful cornering, etc. the wide bars made it a joy to dance elegantly through the crowd.

Earlier scooters had 8" wheels and the engine at the rear which seemed to have issues, but today's scooters have 12" wheels and the engine further forward makes for much more precise handling.

The new suspension had a laugh on the roughest city streets, and if you need to accommodate heavier riders or commuters, the rear end is preload-adjustable.

The new brakes are also smooth and efficient, especially when used together.

On the hills above Rome, it was equally fun to gracefully climb straightaways in the sun and nimbly maneuver around corners.

Or maybe Golightly.

Wait, that was a different movie. A cat inside.
