The film was even more successful when it was released on DVD, debuting in DVD sales in America during the week ending January 9, 2011. Its sequel, " Machete Kills ", was released on October 11, 2013, and the trailer for the third film was released. in "The Trilogy" as a post-credits scene, introducing the third film as an upcoming attraction.

Machete star Danny Trejo outlines his most iconic role on GQ and reveals why it was so important to him. Trejo says the first Halloween after Machete was released, he saw kids dressed up as heroes and mustaches and all, and he goes, " Hey, Machete!" Machete could still return for the third installment of the franchise. The character first appeared in Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids , and Trejo later reprized the role in a fake trailer between Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse double feature. Next up was Machete , a homage to the B-movie work and a sequel that, although less well received than its predecessor, paved the way for other sequels.

The trailer for the third movie, currently titled “ Machete Kills in Space ,” shows the titular character who is sent into space by the Chief (played by Charlie Sheen) to defeat the villain known as “Silver Mask” at the end of “ Machete Kills .” "".
