After establishing himself firmly in the horror genre with Maya and Game Over , Ashwin Saravanan is back in the game with Nayanthara's latest, Connect . The movie manages to ooze suspense despite its low-flying scares. A pure horror drama without the humor or unwanted drama that makes it an enjoyable viewing experience. Read our full review of the movie.
What was the movie about?
The film begins with the introduction of Anna (Hanya Nafisa), her mother Susan (Nayanthara), her doctor Joseph (Vinay) and Susan's father Arthur (Satyaraj). The COVID-19 pandemic spreads and Joseph goes to the hospital and stays there to treat patients infected with the virus. When Susan and Anna are alone in the house, Anna is possessed by a demonic spirit.
The story attracts the audience and continues to grow
The best part of the movie is the story. No rush and everything happens in slow motion. Whether it's Anna's estate, how she owns it, or the final scene where Susan learns about the property, everything happens naturally. Few are afraid of flying, and they are scary.
Almost every shot feels like a first-person shot
Another aspect that distinguishes the film is the way Manikanthan Krishnamachari directed it. The cinematography feels like a first-person shot, as the entire film takes place in an enclosed space and conversations between the central characters take place via video calls. So when the camera moves, it moves the audience with it, making the whole experience more real.
Nafisa overcomes the mighty Nayanthara
Nayanthara introduces us to the anxious mother of an angry teenager. When he learns of the property, his personality transformation is immediate and makes him believable. However, debutante Nafisa is the star of the show. His expressions and nuances add more authenticity to the film. Sathyaraj and Anupam Kher also made brief appearances.
Verdict: You should see A on the big screen
Suddenly, very scary moments will happen to protect you. And when that happens, it will make you scream and shiver. Watching it on OTT may not give you the same experience as watching it in theatres. The makers called the movie a break-free movie, but there was a break in between, and that was disappointing. We'll go with 4/5 stars.
