10 Movie Trailers That Lied To The Audience

However, some trailers hide too much of the story or give secondary characters too much screen time, misleading viewers and creating incorrect expectations for the actual film.

The trailers of some movies show older actors to give them small roles in the actual story of the movie. The rest of the bullies are very careful and by hiding their stories, they manage to distort each other's films. The balance between the trailer and the movie is tricky, but there are a lot of people who don't give their story its due.
Zendaya is not in Dune at all.
The 2021 film The Dune is a fairly accurate and well-received adaptation of Frank Herbert's science fiction book series. The trailer, however, is a bit misleading as to how much time certain characters, especially Zendaya, will spend throughout the film.
The Dunes trailer captures the scale and energy of the last film, but pays too much attention to actress Zendaya compared to her presence in the actual film. His character, Chani, only appears a few times in the film, mostly in Paul's dreams, only physically interacting with the main character in the last ten minutes.
Kylo Ren's lightsaber attacks never work
The disappointing sequel to the Star Wars trilogy has been getting a lot of buzz, especially after the release of the first teaser and trailer. The original teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured a fan-favorite shot of Kylo Ren and his strange lightsabers, which was unfortunately cut from the final version.

Kyle's famous look from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer gave fans their first taste of his lightsaber, sparking much debate about the weapon's lore and realism. However, this footage was never used in the film and disappointed fans hoping to see Kyle's epic moment on the big screen.
Morbius isn't really an anti-hero.
It's no secret that Morbius was a box office flop, but perhaps the trailer helped establish the flop. Some scenes from the trailer never made it or are less important than the trailer suggests, and some major plot points in the film are underrepresented or exaggerated.
The trailer for Morbius promotes the film as a dark comic, suggesting that the main character is an anti-hero struggling with his morals. On the other hand, the film is less convincing; Morbius is framed by actions he didn't commit and has a pretty solid moral compass throughout the story. It's not a bad premise, but it's definitely not what the trailer promises.
Suicide Squad is not a character driven movie
All the hype surrounding the release of Suicide Squad couldn't save it from the barrage of negative reviews that followed the film's release. The trailer promises a wild, character-driven story for some of DC's most prolific villains, while the film is actually more concerned with its surprisingly disjointed story.
The characters of " Suicide Squad " are much less involved in the story than the trailer suggests. Other than brief introductions, most of the characters are not important to the film's plot; some were even killed before the film was half over. Jared Leto's Joker also has little to do with the film, despite being a big part of the trailer.
Downsizing is not comedy
Downsizing , the quirky Matt Damon starrer, introduced an interesting premise in the original trailer. Posing as a sci-fi comedy, the film is actually much more serious and political than the trailer suggests.

The Downsizing trailer features scenes almost exclusively from the first act of the film. It's impossible to predict what the movie will actually be like from the trailer, and the tone of the actual movie is very different from what the trailer suggests. Although there is an element of comedy in the film at various points, it is difficult to call it a true comedy.
Anna is not mentioned as the main character of Frozen.
Disney's Frozen , however, is a Disney Princess movie. The trailer, however, gives little insight into the actual plot and is intended to be more of a generic fantasy film than a character-driven narrative.
In the Frozen trailer, it's hard to tell that Anna is the real protagonist of the film. Kristoff and Olaf stand out more than Elsa, who is likely to be a major supporting character in the film, and the plot of the film is very different from what the trailer suggests. The trailer suggests that the film is simply about the end of eternal winter, when the film is more about the sisters reuniting and healing their broken relationship.
Will Smith has no role in After Earth
Another example of active use of actors to market a film is the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's science fiction film After Earth , which vaguely illustrates Will Smith's importance to the plot. The trailer shows that the film is action-packed and tense, while most of the film is actually quite slow and low-key.
Jaden Smith, the protagonist of " Pas Earth ", spends most of the film alone. The trailer, however, introduces Will Smith's character in the same way as his son's character, even as Will. This suggests that Will Smith will have a major role in the film, although he is actually injured and irrelevant to the plot in the opening scene.
The Bridge to Terabithia is sadder than it seems
The movie " Bridge to Terabithia " is much more serious and mature than the trailer shows. The film's trailer hints at a more whimsical tone, similar to The Chronicles of Narnia , where the two main characters, Jess and Leslie, will explore a kind of fantasy world. Instead, the film is really more of a coming-of-age story that revolves around themes of love, grief, and the importance of imagination.
Bridge to Terabithia is surprisingly sad and documents the events of Jess and Lessie, two outcasts who together created the fantasy land of Terabithia. The world of Terabithia itself is most likely a metaphor for their friendship and innocence, but the film's trailer makes no attempt to explain this. Instead, the trailer simply presents the plot as a generic fantasy action movie written for children.
Eagle's father is never mentioned in the trailer.
The trailer for Disney Pixar 's The Good Dinosaur is missing one of the film's most important characters: the main character's father, Arlo. Although the trailer is quite long and many scenes are shown out of context, this movie is very different from what it was made out to be.
"The Good Dinosaur " is about Arlo and his journey home. An important part of this story is Arlo's relationship with his father and his guilt over his death. The fact that Arlo's family, especially his father, is completely absent from the trailer is a bit strange compared to the importance of the characters in the actual film.
The Godzilla trailer teases Bryan Cranston as the title character
Bryan Cranston's role in the 2014 Godzilla film was greatly exaggerated in the trailer. Despite the actor's presence throughout the trailer, hinting that he will play an important role in the film's plot, the character dies in the opening scene of the film.
The initial marketing for the 2014 Godzilla film was intended to change the perspective of the Godzilla franchise to something more serious and dramatic. Bryan Cranston was buzzing as the lead in the trailer, but his presence in the film was minimal. It is the death of this character that motivates the main character, Ford Brody, to uncover the government secrets behind the creation of Godzilla.
