More People Should Watch This South Korean Time Travel Thriller On Netflix
In 2019, black comedy thriller Parasite won the Oscar for Best Picture. For many viewers, I entered the treasure of South Korean cinema through the 1 inch subtitle barrier.
On top of the shimmering pile is another South Korean film, The Bell. Like Parasite: Young Jinmo was released on Netflix in 2020, with Oscar-nominated editors. Anyone who loves effective and unique storytelling full of suspense cannot ignore this one.
The Call is set in a rural setting when 28-year-old Kim Seo-yeon returns home to visit her ailing mother abroad. Finally, she loses her cell phone on a train ride. This fatal mistake forces him to use a cordless phone. After a fateful phone call, a true nightmare unfolds.
Seo Young meets another 28-year-old woman - Oh Young Seok - and she asks her mother for help. The joke is: the two women are in the same house, but at different times. One in 2019, the other in 1999. Listen to the cool 90's Korean grunge music.
Because of this strange connection, in the current timeline, Seo Yeon is trying to process the tragic events of her past. The only catch is that he's relying on his friendship with another woman on the line whose situation may be more hellish than his.
The fact that these women met face to face shows the profound talent of actors Park Shin Hye and Jung Jong Soo. They allow themselves to drag their feet into unfamiliar mines and dangerous situations. The tension is constant.
The group ended with female mothers and their roles are equally extraordinary, Kim Sung Ryung and Lee Il. Lee Al in particular creates a play about the wild upbringing of children like Carrie, Caroline and Norman Bates.
Of course, every step in the film production process goes through a fine sieve. The attention to detail is impeccable. The film's creative team includes editor Yang Jin-Moo and Vanessa Taylor, colorist for Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Great Gatsby. In the current timeline, you can see Lila covering the scenes with Seo-yin, representing her sadness and despair. In the previous scene, Yoo-suk glows red to ward off anger, danger, and violence.
The pressure you feel while playing is an indication of the volume of the call inside you. Yes, it's a mental mix of time travel, but it's all about the pillars of the mother-daughter relationship. There's a lesson out there about how much it takes to change your fate, but luckily it wasn't slammed in your face.
As in the Bong Joon Ho film, director and screenwriter Lee Jong Hyun takes a shocking turn that changes everything you know about the stadium.
The Call is a green, innovative and evolving narrative that will take you on a quest for top-notch movies not seen very often on Netflix. Push it back on Netflix shelves as soon as possible.
