Chris Evans' Pain Hustlers Movie Will Take You On A Wild Netflix Ride, If You Ignore Its Early Reviews
The official trailer for Netflix's Pain Hustlers has been released online — and it's double the number of major drug comparisons on Wall Street .
Pain Hustlers, starring Emily Blunt and Marvel alum Chris Evans, was first teased in early September. Back then, we commented on how similar Netflix's new crime-comedy thriller was to Monsters of Wall Street . And based on the new trailer, we're even more confident that David Yates ( Harry Potter ) will direct the film.
Watch the official Pain Hustler trailer:
Pain Hustlers , based on the 2022 Evan Hughes book of the same name, tells the story of high school dropout Lisa Drake (Blunt), who is hired by Pete Brenner (Evans), a sales representative for a pharmaceutical startup in Florida. . However, Drake soon learns of illegal activities within the company - led by CEO Jack Neal (Andy Garcia) - and is forced to question his own ethics in the face of unethical practices and corporate criminals.
Sure, Payne Hustlers doesn't look as cinematic as The Wolf of Wall Street , but with its obvious star power and suspenseful crime drama, it's going to be another big winner for Netflix, right? When the first reviews dropped in mid-September, critics didn't believe what they were saying about Netflix's new 2023 movie.
Based on 24 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Pain Hustlers will be a wet fire when it debuts on the world's best streaming service in late October. Indeed, the minuscule 25% critical point suggests that Netflix won't be the disaster it was hoping for, which is a shame considering the talent it already has.
However, as we've seen time and time again, a film's critical reception doesn't always translate to general audience performance, especially for films that are only available on streaming platforms.
Take the red Netflix notification for example. The 2021 espionage action-comedy starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot earned a terrifying 37% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes upon release, but is currently Netflix's highest-grossing film.
But as of October 1, 2023, it has been watched 230.9 million times and 454.2 million hours have been streamed (according to Netflix's Top 10 page). Red Alert may not be one of Netflix's best movies in our opinion (or many for that matter), but there's no denying that a solid trio of A-listers has made it onto the list of Netflix's top movies. .
So, yes, there is still hope for pain relievers . The film is off to a poor start with critics, but is likely to get a more positive reception from audiences when it releases on Friday, October 27. It was one of our top four picks in Netflix's Fall 2023 lineup. So we expect it to work well enough to justify our faith. We will know soon enough.
