Classic Horror Oracle Review: Card Deck Celebrates Old & New Scary Movies
Chronicle Books will release a 50-card oracle deck called Classic Horror Oracles starting September 12 for $19.95.
These cards feature beautiful artwork by Riccardo Desino and each one depicts a classic horror film. These range from genre classics like Nosferatu and Night of the Living Dead to newer hits like Get Out and Legacy. This is not just a fun word, but a list of the best horror movies that every fan should see or visit.

The art on each of the 50 cards makes them a great collector's item. Diseno is an experienced artist and poster designer who has worked for The Criterion Collection and The New York Times and made a name for himself with these cards. What's really special is how well it captures what makes every horror movie special. By creating images and combining them with your style, you can make your movie look like a piece of cake. It's a very successful soundtrack and you can tell that Disney has a deep respect and appreciation for horror and its history.
Equally important is the included 150-page guide written by Steve Mockus. A full-color guide includes similar artwork. Explain what movie each card is based on and what each card means as you read the words. Mockus does a great job adapting card themes to movies (eg "Midnight" by Gremlins, "Curse" by Ringu).
This also applies to actual readings, such as picking a card that says "Things are not as they seem." Question Salad It's fun to go through all the cards, and I got some horror movie recommendations from the list because I know most of them, but not all of them.
The guide explains how to use the word cards and provides some settings to prepare the cards for reading. These range from simple (drawing a card to answer a question) to more advanced, using three cards to read the past, present and future, or placing them in a staff or "product man" row. There's a lot of versatility in how to use them and they're easy to learn, even at your family level (which I didn't have before this set).
Not as dark or complicated as tarot cards, these classic horror oracle cards are a great addition to any horror fan's collection. The Disney artwork is vibrant and perfectly encapsulates what makes the movies so great. Meanwhile, Mockus has done a great job of capturing the themes and characters of each film. They all come together to create an amazing combo to check out.
