‘Bedurulanka 2012 Movie Review: A Quirky Social Satire Thats Partly Amusing, Partly Patience Testing

Living like there is no tomorrow is a statement we make. What does it really mean to ignore how society treats us? At the end of Bedurulanka (2012), first writer-director Klax explored this idea with various characters on AP's Bedurulanka island. It was December 21, 2012 and the old predictions continued and believed that there is no tomorrow. The central character, Shiva (Kartikea Gomakonda), watches as each village discovers its dirty secrets and then plunges into the fearless festivities of tomorrow. This is one of the most interesting episodes of social satire that deals with superstition, the exploitation of fear and the behavior of the masses.

Suspension of disbelief is essential to enjoying Bedurulanka 2012 . Ten years ago, entire villages in the Andhra Pradesh archipelago would have been naïve enough to listen to false gods promising to save them from the end of the universe. Klax presents fantasy with strange and exaggerated characters.

The story of the triumph of pragmatism over superstition is told with humorous references to the terrible accident of the Skylab satellite, the 2012 Hollywood science fiction disaster film and Kate Winslet and the Titanic .

Since Klax wanted to portray the entire population of the island as naive and weak, he introduced the only realistic character of the group, Shiva, an educated young man who worked in the city. With an entertaining first sequence starring the average director, this film proves that Shiva is not easy. As a graphic designer he created a realistic tiger that the graphics had to "show". He leaves work in turmoil and returns to his island village, where Chinese whisperers tell a new story of his escape from the village. This hilarious sequence is a trailer for understanding the psychology of village people.

As the final day approaches, what happens when a group of men try to exploit the villagers? Fear gripped Yedurulanka and she turned into Bedurulanka. Ajay Ghosh calling himself Yedurulanka Chiranjeevi along with false gods, Hindus and Christians started to exploit human beings. The village head (Goparaju Ramanna) is equally naïve.

The debates between these people and Shiva and how they take people on journeys are sometimes told through humorous verses such as "gorrelu vachhayi" (the sheep are here). It is interspersed with the love story of Shiva and Chitra (Neha Shetty), the glamorous wit of the latter and nothing more.

Soon after , Bedurulanka 2012 was filled with repeated advertisements. The film redeems itself at the end when Satya, Venela Kishore and Shiva (whose full name is triplet superstar Chiranjeevi) step in to take over and make the villagers more hands-on. Many pranks are done by Shiva and gangster gang.

The performances of the characters are effective, if mediocre, and many local actors also reprise their roles. The characters played by Ajay Ghosh, Srikanth Iyengar and Rajkumar Kasiridhi become annoying after a while.

If Bedurulanka 2012 doesn't expand the concept further, it could change the rules of independent cinema.
