The summer movie season kicks off with the release of the seventh Mission: Impossible film in July, followed by Oppenheimer vs. Impossible. Barbie on July 21.

July 7th
Subtle: The Red Door (Sony, Theatrical). Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne are scaring everyone once again in series five.
Fun Rides (Lionsgate, Theatre). Adele Lim directs the heartwarming comedy about friends who travel to China to find one's birth mother, starring Ashley Park, Stephanie Hu, Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu.
"The Class" (Bleecker Street Theatre). A young writer helps a famous author in this thriller by Richard E. Grant's participation.
Biosphere (IFC, theater and VOD). Mark Duplass and Sterling K. The Browns were the last two men on earth.
Mother Earth (A24, Theatres). Savannah Leaf's acclaimed debut follows a woman, alone and pregnant with two children in an orphanage, who tries to bring her family back to the Bay King.
14 July
Mission Impossible - Fallout Part I (Paramount, in theaters July 12). Tom Cruise. Fatal Operation in Venice. Back to Kittredge? What else is needed?
Theater Camp (Focus, Theater).
The Miracle Club (Sony Picture Classics, Theatrical). In 1967, lifelong friends (Kathy Bates, Maggie Smith, Agnes O'Casey) from a small community in Dublin dream of traveling to the French town of Lourdes where a miracle will happen. Laura Linney played the lead role.
20 Days in Mariupol (at NYC theaters). The AP's Mstislav Chernov directed this documentary, a joint Associated Press-PBS project "Frontline," about the first week of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, featuring Chernov, photographer Yevan Maletka and a field. Producer Vasilisa Stepanenko became the city's only international journalist, and their reporting earned her a Pulitzer Prize for public service.
Fire (Janus Films, Theatrical). German director Christian Petzold's drama is set in a Baltic summer home, where tensions rise between a writer, a photographer and a mysterious guest (Paula Beer) when a forest fires.
They cloned Tyrone (Netflix). The mystery film stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris and Jamie Foxx.
21st July
Oppenheimer (Universal, Theatrical). Christopher Nolan draws the audience into the life of the "Father of the Atomic Bomb", J. Inside the mind of Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) as he and his colleagues prepare for their Trinity test at Los Alamos.
Barbie (Warner Bros., Theatrical). Margot Robbie stars alongside Ken Ryan Gosling as the world's most famous doll (as well as many other dolls) in Greta Gerwig's comedy about their perfect world.
Stephen Curry. Underrated (Apple TV+). Peter Nix produced a documentary about the four-time NBA champion.
The Beanie Bubble (in select theaters, Apple TV+, July 28). Zac Galifianakis plays the man behind Bean's Babies in this comedy-drama starring Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook and Geraldine Viswanathan.
28th July
The Haunted Mansion (Disney, Theatrical). Disney attractions come to life for Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish, Wayne Wilson and Danny DeWitt.
Talk to Me (A24, Cinema). A group of friends raise spirits in this horror film starring Sophie Wilde and Joe Bird.
Happiness for Beginners (Netflix, July 27). Ellie Kemper is a recently divorced woman who wants to make a difference in the world.
The Devil's Sympathy (RLJE Film). In this thriller, Joel Kinnaman is forced to lead a mysterious shooter (Nicolas Cage).
City of Kokomo (Magnolia). A documentary about four black transgenders. One subject, Coco da Puel, was killed in April.
August 4
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mutant Strike (Paramount, Theatrical). This animated film brings teenagers back into the equation with a fun cast that includes Seth Rogen and John Cena as Bebop and Rocksteady.
Difficulty (Sony Pictures Classics, Theatrical): Randall Park directed the adaptation of Adrian Tomin's graphic novel about Asian-American friends in the Bay Area, starring Sherry Colan as Alice, Eli Mackey as Michonne, and Justin H. Min as Ben.
Mag 2: The Trench (Warner Bros., Theatrical). Jason Statham fights with sharks again!
"Transition" (Mubi). The relationship of an elderly couple (Franz Rogowski, Ben Whishaw) falls apart when someone begins an affair with a woman (Adele Exarchopoulos).
Merciful Spy (Magnolia). Steve James' documentary about the youngest Manhattan Project physicist to leak information to the Soviet Union.
Dreaming Wild (Road Attraction). Casey Affleck stars in the film about musical duo Don and Joe Emerson.
Trouble (A24, Theater). Julio Torres stars as an aspiring toy designer in this surreal comedy with Tilda Swinton, which he wrote, directed and produced.
August 11
Gran Turismo (Sony, Theatrical). Players get to take a professional course in this video game adaptation starring David Harbor and Orlando Bloom.
The Last Voyage of Demeter (Public, Theatre). This supernatural horror film is based on the head of Dracula.
Heart of Stone (Netflix). Gal Gadot plays a detective agent opposite Jamie Dornan in the action film.
Forever Memories (MTV Documentary). This documentary is about marriage and Alzheimer's.
Pod generation (vertical, cinema). Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor star in this sci-fi comedy about a new approach to parenthood.
Jules (Bleecker Street, Theatre). Ben Kingsley stars in this film about a UFO that crashes in his backyard in rural Pennsylvania.
August 18
Blue Beetle (Warner Bros., Theatrical). Xolo Mariduegna stars as DC superhero Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle in this first story.
Wanderers (Various, Dramatic). Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx voice the dogs in this R-rated non-animated comedy.
"Birth/Rebirth" (IFC, Theater). A woman and a morgue worker bring the little girl back to life with this horror.
"White Bird" (Lionsgate, Theatre). Helen Mirren tells the story of her grandson in Nazi-occupied France, who is expelled from school for terrorism.
Landscape "Invisible Hand" (MGM, Theater). Teenagers come up with a unique plan to make money in a world invaded by aliens.
The Hill (Briacliff Entertainment). This baseball drama starring Dennis Quaid is based on the true story of Ricky Hill.
August 25
They listen (Sony, Theater). John Cho and Katherine Waterston go undercover in this Blumhouse horror film.
Golda (Bleecker Street). Helen Mirren stars in this drama about Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir during the Yom Kippur War.
"The Bottoms" (MGM, Theater). Two unpopular teenage girls (Rachel Sennett and Ayo Adebiri) form a fight club to impress cheerleaders who want to lose their virginity in this teen sex-comedy parody.
Dive (RLJE Movie). In this disturbing shot of two sisters diving, one gets injured and ends up underwater.
Scrapper (Kino Lorber, Theater). A 12-year-old girl (Lola Campbell) lives alone in her London flat until her estranged father (Harris Dickinson) shows up.
Fremont (music box film, film). A former military interpreter from Afghanistan (Anaita Wali Zada) moves to Fremont, California and takes a job at a fortune cookie factory. Bear starring Jeremy Allen White.
September 1
The Equalizer 3 (Sony, Theatrical). Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall, who has to quit the popular business, but things get complicated in southern Italy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Disney/Marvel). Nine years after Peter Quill, Rocket, Groot and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy were introduced to a world that wasn't haunted by the comics, the Misfits trilogy ends and bids farewell. Directed by James Gunn, who now directs DC Rivals (AP Review).
"What does love have to do with it?" (Shout! Studio). In this charming romantic comedy, Lily James plays a documentarian whose next project is about her neighbor (Shazad Latif), who is about to marry of convenience.
book club. Next chapter (main topic): Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenbergen travel to Italy to celebrate their engagement.
Mother (Netflix). Jennifer Lopez is the mother in the killer and action movie Mother's Day. (AP review here).
Love again (Sony). Priyanka Chopra Jonas stars as a woman grieving the death of her boyfriend who texts her old number, not knowing it's a new one (Sam Heughan). Celine Dion (and her music) stars in this romantic drama.
Steel. Michael J. Fox Movies (AppleTV+). Davis Guggenheim Michael J. Fox to tell her story from her arrival in Hollywood to her Parkinson's diagnosis and beyond.
Monica (IFC). A transgender woman estranged from her family returns to visit her dead mother in this film starring Tracy Lidgett and Patricia Clarkson.
The Starling Girl (Bleecker Street). Eliza Scanlen stars as a 17-year-old girl living in a fundamentalist Christian community in Kentucky whose life is changed by the arrival of charismatic youth minister Louise Pullman.
Fool's Paradise (Roadside Walk). Charlie Day wrote, directed and co-starred in this satirical Hollywood comedy.
Hypnosis (Ketchup Entertainment). Ben Affleck stars as a detective whose daughter goes missing in this Robert Rodriguez film.
It's Not Over (Sony Pictures Classics). Documentary about Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Burr.
