Stephanie Hsu's New Comedy 'Joy Ride' Is Already Getting Rave Reviews

Stephanie Hsu won our hearts with last year's All Around All At Once and became one of the few queer actresses nominated for an Academy Award for a queer role in a history book.

Now, her new comedy starring Chinese-American queer comedians Sherri Cola and Sabrina Wu is receiving rave reviews after premiering at the SXSW Film Festival. Ashley Park also starred in the film.

Fun Ride, written and directed by Crazy Rich Asians' Adele Lim , is a wild and hilarious comedy about two childhood best friends searching for their biological mother in China. And it currently has a 100 percent rating out of ten reviews on Rotten Tomatoes .

“When Audrey's (Pac) business trip to Asia goes awry, she turns to her insane childhood best friend Lolo (Cola) for help. His college friend Kat (Xu) becomes the star of a Chinese soap opera. and Dedai (Wu) Lolo's cousin,” reads the film's description. "Ultimately, with a handful of brides like the Shiningans, their experience becomes a journey of connection, friendship, belonging and betrayal, revealing the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are."

Fun Ride doesn't look out of the ordinary, but it makes the film starring three of our favorite young actors one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Early reviews of the film have been praised for its fun and humor.

"If you miss the days when comedies didn't shy away from blatant nudity, heavy drug use, riotous fun and raw humor , boy have I got a movie for you," wrote For Past's Aurora Amidon . .

TheWrap's Lex Briscoe called the film "a fun but heartfelt buddy" and Ryde gleefully recalls that "life's greatest obstacles and wonders are overcome in the warm embrace of close friendship; a film that has everything you need.

Another film we're looking forward to is Emma Seligman's Shoes , which premiered at SXSW. Joy Ride isn't 100 percent, but it has a 94 percent good rating from 18 reviews.

Starring Rachel Sennot and Ayo Idebiri , Downstairs tells the story of two quirky and unpopular high school students who form a fight club before graduation to find cheerleaders.
