Is Ghosted Really That Bad? 6 Reasons The Movie's Reviews Are So Awful

WARNING: SPOILERS Ghosted Ghosted is a new big budget action movie on AppleTV+ with an outstanding cast and respected director, but the movie was panned by critics. In movies like True Lies and Mr. Getting no response from her, Cole tracks Sadie down with his inhaler tracking app and travels all the way to London only to find out she's a CIA agent. Despite its potentially interesting premise, it ended up being one of the lowest-rated films of 2023.

Ghosted has a tight budget as it is packed with special effects, huge action scenes, world famous movie stars and a soundtrack full of classic songs from the likes of The Beatles. However, each of these items has come under criticism and currently sits at 29% Rotten Tomatoes for Rotten. Even the few positive reviews of Ghosted were pretty lame. AppleTV+ tries to create an action-romantic thriller that will please audiences and the general public, but critics say the film is not quite what it should be. Here are six reasons why Ghosted didn't impress.

Chris Evans and Anna de Armas have no chemistry in 'Ghost'

Ghostly is the third film starring Armas and Evans, following 2019's Knives Out and 2022's The Gray Man . Unfortunately, Ghostly is closer to The Gray Man than Knives Out , as there was a Netflix action film starring Adrien Brody, a billionaire. The villain Ghost even resembles Evans Hamm's incredible performance in The Gray Man . However, Ghost is the worst film of the three, and that's partly due to the lack of chemistry between the two leads, which is surprising considering they lit up the screens in Knives Out .

Evans and De Armas have proven in the past that they have great chemistry, but the Ghost stars have been criticized at times. Marlowe Stone explained, "It's clear that De Armas and Evans, charismatic and charming in their own right, have almost no chemistry. Every line comes out so awkwardly, like reading from an SNL card" (via Rolling Stone) . Ghosted may have poorly written dialogue, but De Armas and Evans can't exploit the lines they're given. From their first argument about the plant to their monotonous performance, their performance feels completely staged, adding to the lazy Ghosted atmosphere.

Ghosted's script looks like it was written by artificial intelligence.

As AI writing software becomes more popular, even screenwriters are using AI to write movies. Ghosted seems to have been written more by ChatGPT than any other film as it hits all the right beats without doing anything original. Brian Eggert called the film " an empty Hollywood product that makes you wonder if screenwriters are already using artificial intelligence to write their screenplays " (via Deep Focus Review ). While AI doesn't just write movies, it can be a useful scripting tool, but Ghosted seems to be the only AI-enhanced project.

Fast and furious ghost style does not work!

The Fast and Furious franchise has such terrifying action sequences that are full of explosives, CGI and Dominic Toretto and his family destroying an entire town. And while it works for Fast and Furious , it doesn't work for Ghosts . Although his review was more positive than negative, calling the film "windy", Jamie Graham noted that Fast & Furious is a little plastic (via Total Film ). Although the film has some great action sequences, such as the spinning restaurant at the end of Ghoststead , and it leads to some artificial deaths, the film's plot feels condensed.

Graham's review is an accurate account of how the film's action scenes were generally received. It may have something to do with watching movies on TVs for the first time and even on smaller screens like iPads and phones, as a movie like Fast & Furious 7 would probably get the same reception if it was released that way. . When Ghost hits theaters, it may receive more positive reviews. The budget of the film has not been announced, but it is obviously high because of the huge action scenes, and it will be much more interesting to see them on the big screen.

Ghost jokes are not funny

The comedy Ghosted received widespread critical acclaim, with Nicole Ekman calling it a "romantic comedy action film". It's a shame he's not very good at either. (via Oscar Central ). Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie and Ryan Reynolds reserve the Ghosted MCU footage as the funniest part of the AppleTV+ film. Stan and Mackie play rival bounty hunters, while Reynolds plays Sadie's old love, who thinks castration is the best thing that ever happened to him. But beyond that, much of the romcom humor explodes like a lead balloon.

Ghosts pale in comparison to true lies and Mr. and Mrs. Smith

With spy rom-coms like The Lost City and Shotgun Wedding resurging in popularity, Ghost is the latest offering in the genre. Unfortunately, its similarities to many good films put it at odds with the best action rom-com, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and one of Schwarzenegger's best films, True Lies . As noted by Kevin Maher. " For the best example of sexual chemistry in a movie like this, watch Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith " (via The Times ). Still, Ghosted is at least better than the recent True Lies remake, which got worse reviews than the AppleTV+ film.

The main character of Ghost is basically a stalker

Ultimately , Ghost's biggest problem is the hero. Chris Evans plays Cole in The Ghost , an ordinary Joe who can't take care of himself. He follows the woman he spent the night with around the world, and he does so with his tracker inhaler, which he keeps in his pocket. Joshua Ryan called it " the most extreme behavior a romantic lead can do " (via Fandom Wire ). Not only is the inhaler tracking app ridiculous, Cole is a real stalker and what he does is toxic behavior and raises a lot of red flags. This questionable behavior not only complicates the relationship with Cole, but also raises a moral question mark over Gosted's entire saga.
