Netflixs New Korean Action Movie Has Everyone Glued To Their Screens
If you want to get an idea of Netflix's growth trajectory, an easy way is to see where it spends its money. The new movie that just hit the airwaves is Pirates. The Last Royal Treasure ,” is the latest testament to Netflix's growing investment in Korean-language content. Netflix has given us some memorable content throughout the year, as the streaming giant reportedly spent half a billion dollars in 2021.
We're talking about shows like Vincenzo , My Name , and Hell . You may have heard of a short play called Squid Game . As the first quarter of 2022 comes to a close, there's no sign that Netflix plans to cut back on spending in this area anytime soon.
Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure:
This latest addition to Netflix's Korean-language library is a 2-hour deal that, aside from the streamer's length, seems a bit unusual. Most of the Korean historical dramas I watch on Netflix are set on the mainland. And they mention dynasties, mythical creatures, etc. Or a more modern adventure, perhaps with guns and drugs? Or it could even be a romance, like Netflix's new Korean movie Love & Leashes .
Here's what the Netflix synopsis for this new pirate-centric movie has to offer. "Joseon pirates and a brave band of pirates battle their warring rivals in stormy waters, tangled clues and the search for gold lost at sea."
So far the film is getting good response from the moviegoers. However, these are just a few of the streamer's tons of great K-dramas to watch on Netflix.
For example, The Pirates has a 71% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on dozens of reviews so far. One of the reviewers noted: "I focus on other pirate movies because most of them are epic versions of Pirates of the Caribbean that failed." “But this movie goes beyond that. Better than my expectations. It's a good movie delivery. Adventure, action, comedy and romance all rolled into one.
The best Korean movies on Netflix
What if I want to watch more Korean movies after I finish Pirates ? Fortunately, watching Korean movies doesn't require any work to sort through the countless movies and shows available on the streamer. Just click on this link and it will take you straight to a Netflix page with nothing but Korean movies.
Netflix is putting a lot of emphasis on great K-dramas, releasing clips more and more quickly. Perhaps the best example to date is still Crash Landing on You. This show is better than 95 percent of American television in my opinion.
However, don't miss out on some great Korean movies that can be streamed on Netflix. Below I will briefly talk about two of my favorites.
steel rain
This is a humorous adventure involving an elite North Korean soldier and a South Korean spy. They must team up to prevent the outbreak of war on the peninsula, including the assassination of the leader of the North's generals and to encourage a coup.
The action scenes are top-notch and the comedy helps to ease the tension. In one particularly memorable moment, a South Korean officer played K-pop for a North Korean soldier in his car.
Space cleaner
It's a fun space adventure. Honestly, it looks like an attempt to make a Korean Star Wars .
Netflix synopsis. “In 2092, the Starship Victory is one piece of space debris. Tae-ho (Song Jong-ki), a brilliant space pilot, meets Captain Jang (Kim), a mysterious former space pirate. Taen. - Ri), spaceship engineer Tiger Park (Jin Sun-kyu) and a reprogrammed military robot Babs (Yu Hye-jin), the spaceship Victory surpasses all other space fighters.
“After successfully hijacking a crashed spaceship in their latest badass pursuit, Team Victory finds a 7-year-old girl inside. They realize that he is a humanoid robot that the UTS Space Guardians are looking for and decide to demand a ransom in return.
