In 'Luther: The Fallen Sun' Trailer Idris Elba Tracks A Sociopathic Killer
9 (UPI) -- The Wire made Idris Elba a national star as a troubled drug dealer, but he's best known to British audiences as detective John Luther. The BBC's Luther ran for five seasons from 2010 to 2019, with Elba playing Detective Serial Unit and Chief Inspector.
The new Netflix film Luther the Fallen Sun expands on the character as Elba is now a disgraced and imprisoned detective based on what happened in season 5 of Luther .
Elba told Entertainment Weekly in 2022, "He broke the law so much to catch bad guys that he went to jail. And that's where the story starts. He's wondering what to do with his life."
In the trailer, returning DSU character Martin Schenck (played by Dermot Crowley) learns that Luthor has escaped from prison, which doesn't seem to surprise him. Two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo stars as DCI Odette Raine, who tries to convince Luthor to turn himself in.
But he insists that his mission to track down a rogue tech billionaire is more important than using his superior technological skills to kill.
Written by Luthor creator Neil Cross, the film stars Andy Serkis as David Robbie, Luthor's villainous anti-hero. In the trailer, the two face off as Luthor follows their trail as a variety of mayhem unfolds, from firefights to police chases, all set to moody, haunting music.
"Something's brewing," Luthor tells Ren, who freely tells him that Team Tactics will dump him for being a stray if they find him.
The filmmakers say that the film's standalone story can be fun even if you've never seen the series. But it might inspire viewers who haven't seen it yet.
“In a way, the story continues: if you break the show down from the first season to the movies, the story moves forward,” director Jamie Payne told EW. "But since the film got a bigger platform, we felt it was important that someone who saw the film for the first time had his own story. That way he could watch the movie and come back and then dive into the show. It was important to all of us that the audience find their way into the show. received." and for knowledge.
