From the film's title and trailers, it seemed that the film would feature the familiar story of a child killer. Instead, Something Goes Wrong with the Children focuses on psychological horror, creating a highly unexpected and shocking viewing experience. Something Wrong with the Kids had a chance to become a modern horror classic with its unexpected twists, but when the storytelling throughout the film reverted to old clichés, it almost ruined the entire plot that had been created throughout the film.
There's Something Wrong with the Children , directed by Roxanne Benjamin and written by T. J. Zimfel and David White, tells the story of two couples running through the woods. The group plans a fun little getaway together as Ellie and Thomas (Amanda Crew and Carlos Santos) and their two children share one cabin, while Margaret and Ben (Alisha Wainwright and Jack Gilford) share another. But everything changes when the children, Lucy and Spencer (Briella Giza and David Mattel), disappear from the cabin and find themselves near a large hole hidden deep in the forest. Upon their return, the children begin to play disturbing psychological games, especially with Ben, which leads to a series of shocking events that will leave no one indifferent.

The best thing about this film is that it plays with the mind of the viewer. There is something wrong with kids jumping into the fragile mind of a hero , leaving viewers to wonder if the events in the movie are real or fictional. In the middle of this film, there is a very poignant, almost iconic moment, after which the film seems very dangerous - as if something could happen. However, the script then decides to come back hard in the second act and turns into a story that any audience can predict.
"Something Wrong with the Kids" creates an interesting emotional turmoil in the first half that returns in the second half. Drama often seems unnecessary in horror films, but here it really makes sense for the story and helps viewers feel connected to the characters. However, all of these clever constructions go to waste when the film turns into a standard horror movie towards the end. While the ride is still fun, the ending is a little disappointing. On the other hand, the film looks crisp and the talented film has a great soundtrack. The visual and audio elements may not add to the cliched nature of the finale, but they make the journey more enjoyable.
In the second act, "Something is wrong with the children " is really terrifying. Viewers don't really know what's going on with these guys, their intentions, or if they're trying to hurt anyone. The film is like a violent version of the Twilight Zone series, never letting the audience know what's going on. Unfortunately, as this movie unfolds, it loses its momentum, mystery, and excitement. Overall, Something Goes Wrong With the Kids is a fun and innovative psychological horror story that ultimately falls short of expectations.
There's Something Wrong with the Kids will be available for digital download on January 17th and streaming on MGM+ on March 17th.
