‘Devotion Movie Review: An Allstar Jonathan Majors Show All The Way

"Dedication" by Adam Makos. Based on the book "An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice," the film tells the moving and tragic story of Jesse Brown, the first African-American pilot to graduate from the US Navy's basic flight training program. .

The action of the film takes place in 1950. Before World War II ended, pilots graduating from school were working "useless jobs", lamenting that they had not seen action. However, a new conflict looms on the Korean horizon. The aircraft carrier USS Leyte carrying Brown (Jonathan Majors), assigned to Fighter Squadron 32 (VF-32), has departed the Mediterranean for Korea where it is stationed.

Brown and his colleagues' missions included cutting lines of communication, bombing military installations, and providing air support to 15,000 American troops surrounded by more than 100,000 Chinese troops at the Chosin Reservoir.

After flying several successful missions, Brown's Corsair crashes on a deserted mountaintop. He cannot leave the burning plane as his legs are trapped. Despite the best efforts of his wingman Tom Hudner (Glenn Powell), who crashes his plane and attacks Brown's drilling rig with an ax in the dark and cold for 45 minutes, he is unable to free Brown.

Falling night and the fear of hijacking a rescue helicopter forced Hudders to abandon the fading brown. To prevent the planes from falling into enemy hands, both planes were filled with napalm.

Bhakti is straight as an arrow to its aim. There is no obvious attempt at sensationalism or hagiography here. When Brown tells Hudner that he doesn't need anyone in his struggle, you know where he's coming from as a poor black boy from Mississippi who had a passion for flying because it was a tough road to get ahead and succeed. In the white world of aviation.

It's clear that Brown doesn't like to entertain, as he speaks in perfect French to an excited doorman at the Cannes casino where movie star Elizabeth Taylor (Serinda Swan) is taking the pilots. The camaraderie and respect between the pilots is subtly shown without resorting to excessive bromance.

Top gun. Thanks to the services of the maverick Kevin LaRosa , aerial combat is exciting, but not with the "breathing" excitement of other films. In Devotion , the dogfights with Brown and his fellow pilots give you an inside feel of being in the cockpit.

The cast is very good, with Jonathan Majors (Heist from Lovecraft Country ) portraying the dignity, determination and passion that Brown's life had to navigate exceptionally well.

Friendship, courage under fire, purpose and above all love make Bhakti an inspiring journey to heaven.
