‘Halloween Ends Review: Jamie Lee Curtis & The Horror Franchise Go Out On A High Note
Jamie Lee Curtis gets the release he deserves in this damn good movie.
Four years ago, Michael Myers claimed his throne as the world's scariest supervillain in the 2018 Halloween blockbuster. The film did so well at the box office that it spawned two sequels, 2021's Halloween Kills and this year's Halloween , which is said to be the final film in the 44-year-old franchise. And if this is essentially the last Halloween movie we get (probably not, let's be real), then we're not complaining. Halloween ends on a high note, giving Jamie Lee Curtis ' iconic youngest daughter Laurie Strode the ending she deserves.
The End of Halloween begins with a cool and very well crafted opening. On Halloween 2019, nanny Corey ( Rohan Campbell ) watches over a little boy while his parents attend a street party. Cory and her son enjoy watching horror movies, but the night takes a terrifying turn when her son dies in a freak fall and Cory is blamed for it.
Three years later, now in Haddonfield, Lori is writing a book, living with her granddaughter Alison ( Andy Matichak ) and truly enjoying life. Michael killed his daughter ( Judy Greer ) four years ago ( The Halloween Murders ), but has not been seen since.
Lori tries to move on with her life, but the city blames Michael for his previous bloodshed. The city kills Corey even after he is acquitted of the murder, so he befriends him. After all, both have seen their share of injuries. But after a while, Laurie saw in Corey's eyes something she had once seen in Michael. And especially after Corey started dating Alison, she started to worry. Things quickly fall apart and, as always on Halloween night, things quickly turn violent in Haddonfield.
The film introduces a twist we didn't see coming (turns out it was a Corey Michaels sequel), and while we loved it, it was too risky to take something so seriously before the curtain went up . But if you ask us, it pays off in the end. The kills are memorable, Kyle Richards returns (again) as Lindsay Wallace, there's a lot of respect for the franchise (even some witches for Halloween III ), and Lori's final showdown with Michael will have you cheering for a second. It might not be the strongest voice in the long-running franchise, but The End of Halloween is one of our favorite Halloween movies right now.
Halloween Ends is now being performed in theaters everywhere and at the Peacock.
